Records show that coffee today is second to oil among the most important commodities of the world. The World Bank estimates that the coffee business involves nearly 500 million people including those who make coffee cups. It was believed that coffee and its energizing effect have been discovered in the 13th Century by the Ethiopians. Come the 15th Century, coffee was introduced to Egypt and Yemen and by the 16th Century, it has reached the rest of Middle East, Persia, Turkey, Northern Africa, and the rest of the world. Today, the coffee business shows no sign of slowing down especially with the booming of coffeehouses worldwide.
There are many different types of coffee available. Espresso, drip coffee, and brewed pot coffee are some of the different types of coffee depending on how they are prepared. A very tasty and frothy coffee, espresso is a type of black coffee blended in an espresso coffee machine wherein the coffee is produced at higher temperature and higher pressure. Milk can also be mixed with espresso to come up with different combinations such as white coffee, cappuccino, coffee chocolate, Vienna coffee, mocha, Affogato, and American coffee. On the other hand, drip coffee is the type of coffee prepared using a drip coffee machine. Two containers are used in the preparation; one is used to hold the water while the other is used to receive dissolved coffee. A coffee filter is used to separate these two containers which also serve as a coffee filter where ground coffee is placed and where hot water passes to dissolve the coffee grains. Lastly, there is the brewed pot coffee prepared with a pot and strainer and wherein the coffee beans are cooked directly in water to obtain the coffee properties.
Coffee can also be classified based on the roast of the bean. American roast is characterized by medium roasted beans which create a moderated brew while French roast is characterized by heavily roasted beans that produce a stronger coffee. There is also the Italian roast, European roast and Viennese roast. These three are described as (1) glossy, brown-black coffee bean that is strongly flavored and used for espresso; (2) two-thirds heavy-roast beans blended with one-third regular roast and (3) one-third heavy roast beans blended with two-thirds regular roast, respectively. Lastly there is also the instant coffee which is a powder made of heat-dried freshly brewed coffee and decaffeinated coffee where caffeine is removed from the beans before roasting via the use of a chemical solvent.
Many a number of different ways of preparing coffee such as using espresso coffee machines, etc., have been devised to give people a wide array of choices on how to enjoy their favorite beverage so as to be able to enjoy the many benefits that can be derived from drinking coffee. Caffeine, which is the primary component of coffee, acts as a stimulant that keeps one awake and reduces stress. Its stimulant action also extends all the way up to the lower intestine, and hence, a good antidote for constipation. Researchers also found out that coffee drinkers are less likely to get liver cancers and have lower risks of acquiring colon, breast, and rectal cancers. Coffee also reduces the risk of the onset of other diseases such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and gallstone diseases. It is also being used as a stand alone pain killer or as enhancement to the effects of other pain killers.
Coffee is definitely one of the most important commodities in the world. Whether prepared manually or using an espresso coffee machine, coffee sure is the top beverage in the world which boasts of many other benefits which come with it.
