On the other hand, drip coffee is the type of coffee prepared using a drip coffee machine. Two containers are used in the preparation; one is used to hold the water while the other is used to receive dissolved coffee. A coffee filter is used to separate these two containers which also serve as a coffee filter where ground coffee is placed and where hot water passes to dissolve the coffee grains. Lastly, there is the brewed pot coffee prepared with a pot and strainer and wherein the coffee beans are cooked directly in water to obtain the coffee properties.

Coffee can also be classified based on the roast of the bean. American roast is characterized by medium roasted beans which create a moderated brew while French roast is characterized by heavily roasted beans that produce a stronger coffee. There is also the Italian roast, European roast and Viennese roast. These three are described as (1) glossy, brown-black coffee bean that is strongly flavored and used for espresso; (2) two-thirds heavy-roast beans blended with one-third regular roast and (3) one-third heavy roast beans blended with two-thirds regular roast, respectively. Lastly there is also the instant coffee which is a powder made of heat-dried freshly brewed coffee and decaffeinated coffee where caffeine is removed from the beans before roasting via the use of a chemical solvent.
